Formally known as the eighth South American Chess Championship (Torneo Sudamericano), this event was held from March 7 to March 25, 1938, at the Hotel Miramar de Carrasco, organized by Mario Blixen of the Uruguayan Chess Association. Alekhine finished undefeated, yielding only four draws, while Argentine players dominated the top, securing 2nd and 3rd place.
