Held in April 1962 in the coastal resort city of Mar del Plata, Argentina, this prestigious round-robin tournament featured 16 top international players from across Europe, North America, the Soviet Union, and South America. Lev Polugaevsky secured a rare undefeated clean sheet (+8 −0 =7) to finish two full points ahead of former World Champion Vasily Smyslov. Yugoslav Grandmaster Bruno Parma executed an incredibly defensive strategy, losing no games but finishing with 14 draws out of 15 matchups.
