Annotations by Alekhine and Max Euwe, edited by Harry Golombek. From E. G. R. Cordingley with stamp to front end paper.(Betts: 27-40) First edition.

Contains brief accounts of the careers of Alekhine and Euwe, with results tables, by the editor; an article on the theoretical results of the match by Alekhine; the 25 games fully annotated, plus five exhibition games; portraits of the players and an index of openings. The 1937 World Chess Championship was played between Max Euwe and Alexander Alekhine in the Netherlands from October 5 to December 4, 1937. Alekhine regained his title. This was the last "Imperial" World Championship where the world champion had control of the title and could set match conditions; Alekhine died in 1946 and FIDE stepped in to take control of the World Championship. Won by Alekhine: 17 1/2 - 12 1/2. Also published by McKay, 1939.

Edgar George R Cordingley (1905-1962) of England had a collection of over 2,000 chess books. He began dealing in chess books in 1934. He moved to the premises of John Lewis, on Oxford Street, where the National Chess Centre was also located. But on September 18, 1940 German bombs hit the site and completely destroyed all of Cordingley’s chess books. After Cordingley died, Ken Whyld acquired his chess library.
