Miroslav Havel, published his first work at a time when the Bohemaina Problem-school was already in a flourishing stage of its development. Born at Teplitz, Bohemia, on November 7th, 1881, Havel had lived since 1884 Prague, where he studied at the High Technical school. He published his first problem on May 1st 1898. After a relatively short period he began to produce works of great depth and beauty. He was speedily acclaimed as a leader who opened p new ways and pointed to new aims. Since 1920, Havel had been chess editor of the column in Cas (Time), which with the Prager Presse (edited by Dr Mach) was the most important Bohemian chess-column.
