The first Torneio Sulamericano took place in Montevideo (Carrasco), Uruguay, in 1921/22. Fourteen contestants contributed to the tournament ten from Argentina, one from Paraguay and three from Uruguay.

A four way tie was for third place with Carlos Guimard, Virgilio Fenoglio, Julio Cesar Balparda and Jacobo Bolbochán sharing the spot-light at 8.5.
