The Maribor 1934 chess tournament was an interesting event of the nine players, Vera Menchik the future world women's champion came in third in an all male field, a point and half behind the first place winners, Vasja Pirc and Lajos Steiner. A point and half behind her was Josef Rejfir and Rudolf Spielmann. In sixth was Lajos Asztalos at 3. Milan Vidmar was seventh at 2.5 with Bogumir Stupan and Tihomil Drezga in consecutive order.
