This was the fiftieth anniversary of the inception of the Club Argentino de Ajedrez and the tournament was attend by many the local dignitaries as well as of the FIDE. It was held Salon de actos de la Academia Nacional de Medicina with eighteen participants contending for the first prize trophy. Two Yugoslavians contested for first, Borislav Ivkov and Svetozar Gligoric, with Ivkov edging into first place by a half point. Close behind was the local favorite Hermann Pilnik half point behind with 12 with Laszlo Szabo of Hungary a close fourth with 11 1/2. Three tied for fifth through seventh with 10 points each Hector Rossetto from Argentina, Luděk Pachman of Czechoslovakia and Arthur Bisguier of the United States. Sole eighth was Oscar Panno from Argentina with a score of 9 1/2 followed closely by Jan Hein Donner of The Netherlands. Four tied for tenth through thirteenth a full point behind the Yugoslavian Petar Trifunović, the Argentinians Carlos Guimard and Pedro Martin, from Spain Roman Toran Albero. In descending order the remainder of the contestants were from the host country Argentina Raul Sanguineti, Alfredo Esposito, Leonardo Lipiniks, Enrique (Heinrich) Reinhardt and Francisco Benko.
