Introduction by Dale Brandreth: Curiously, I found the games of this tournament in the British magazine Black and White some ten years ago while researching on another book. Although not a very strong or large tournament, the presence of the old lions Blackburne, Mason and Bird as well as the rising star Teichmann together with the strong journalist player Tinsley and the young, talented Van Vliet made the event worthwhile. As the reader can judge, some of the games led to interesting positions even though often errors spoiled the expected results. this was single round robin tournament with Blackburne w first with a score of 3 1/2. Mason, Teichmann and Tinsley tied for second with scores of 3 points. Van Vliet scored a disappointing fifth with only 2 points and Bird sixth with only a draw from Mason.
