The authors' intention is to reproduce masterpieces representative of the respective periods in the history of chess, and, by arrangement of work, to complement the standard works on the theory of the openings. The games, played between 1798 and 1938, are fully annotated, arranged by openings; each also has an introductory comment. Each volume includes an index to the games, showing opening variations, and an index of players. The first volume contains 237 games (with an additional 55 in the notes), and the second contains 263 games (44 in the notes) plus an appendix of 26 games at odds, blindfold games, etc.
Condition:
Books II & III have some chipping to spine and staining to the back cover on the volume, corners bumped, spine slightly sunned. Advertisement with edge wear else about a very good set lacking dust jackets.
