Die Kuriositaten und Wunder des Schachspiels, auf den Weihnachtstisch serviert (Chess curiosities and Wonders dished up on the Christmas dinner-table) was commissioned by the Swedish chess magazine Tidskrift for Schack. This was published in their December issue of 1940. Rudolf Spielmann was living in Sweden from 1939 to his death in August 1942, as a refugee from the Nazis. During this period he was cared for and looked after by Swedish Grand Master Erik Lundin and his family. Ludin was then Chief editor of Tidskrift for Schack.
