The German Workers' Chess Federation (DAS) was founded in 1912 by Robert Oehlschlager. The Arbeiter-Zeitung was the monthly publication of the DAS and lasted until 1933 as the Nazi's came to power, socialist organizations were attacked and dismantled.
Albert Becker (1896-1984) was an Austrian-Argentinean chess master. In 1921 he won in Vienna and tied for 4-5th in Frankfurt in 1923. He was active in German chess circles in the 20's and early 30's as one of the stronger players from Austria.
