The Ostende International tournament series started in 1905. In 1907 the last of the really great Ostende tournaments was held. Six players, chosen somewhat arbitrarily, played in a four-round grandmaster tournament. Another tournament, called a Masters tournament, was held among 29 players, many whom either were or became grandmasters. First prize in the grandmaster group went to Tarrasch who not only won a gold medal but also the title of world champion tournament player. Scores: Tarrasch 12 1/2; Schlechter 12; Marsahall, Janowski 11 1/2; Burn 8, Chigorin 4 1/2.
Warren H Goldman was a prolific writer and editor of chess books. He wrote several of the works published by Caissa Editions, including the monumental work Carl Schlechter! Life and times of the Austrian Chess Wizard.
Spine ends rubbed through and frayed, corners rubbed, front end paper lacking, Warren H Goldman's name on title else about a good to very good copy in the original binding.
