Contains 237 end-game studies, a miscellaneous collection of problems, puzzles and curiosities, a few articles reprinted from various chess magazines (including one on the Rice Gambit), a a translation of the poem by Ibn Ezra. Solutions to positions pages 177-199. Volume two, the companion to this piece, was published in 1905.

Condition:

Previous owner's name on front end paper, crack between frontispiece and title page, soiled, spine ends rubbed and chipped away, font hinge rubbed through, stain at heal gutter for the first few pages corners bumped and rubbed through. A good copy.
