This is a first-hand account of the play at Hastings, England, 1979. Since 1895, fifty-four international chess tournaments have been contested near the fields first made famous by William and Harold. The 1978-79 event produced a level of play reflective of contemporary trends in international round-robin competition. As shown in the lineup of players, the mix of nationalities, titles and ratings was sufficiently broad to provide some interesting match-ups. Organization of this material has been designed by Christiansen to provide quick reference to games from several perspectives. In addition to the usual tournament results cross-table, games are indexed by type of opening and further indexed as to game numbers of each player. For any single participant, games and opening selections are easily identifiable. The fifteen games annotated in some detail are Christian's choices which he though would have interest for the reader.
