In the summer of 1923, the Witkowitzer Eisenwerke organized a round robin chess event to be held in Mährisch-Ostrau, Czechoslovakia (Mährisch is German for Moravian, Ostrau is Ostrava). The players were billeted at the Hotel Royal and games were played from July 1-18 in Witkowitz, a suburb of Ostrava. The event culminated in another victory for Lasker, who finished undefeated in his first tournament since 1918, a full point ahead of second place Réti.
