Hume provides the introduction on his problem career, including references to those appearing in the book. The 150 problems which follow consist of 37 two-movers; 35 three-movers; 74 self-mates (mostly in two); and a few others. The solutions, with annotations by A C White, appear on pages 153-199. The work is completed by a chess problem story "Uncle Jeff's problem", written by Hume in 1901.
Corners gently bumped, spine gilt dulled, frontispiece becoming detached else a very good copy.
