Thomas Rayner Dawson (1889-1951) was an English chess problemist and is acknowledged as "the father of Fairy Chess". He invented many fairy pieces and new conditions. He introduced the popular fairy pieces grasshopper, nightrider, and many other fairy chess ideas.
Condition:
Dawson's gift inscription and other previous owner's name to title. Old news clipping to front endpaper dated 1885. Corners and spine ends bumped, spine ends and corners rubbed through. Rear inner hinge cracked, marginalia else better than good.
